As a childminder I will inevitably acquire personal information about the children in my care, their families and their social circumstances. Parents will be made aware of and have access to all records I keep about their children and why. Such information may give me a greater understanding of a child’s needs and enable me to provide a better quality of care. However, I must carefully consider my responsibilities in relation to sharing such information.
To ensure privacy and confidentiality,
- I acknowledge that children and their parents/carers would not wish information they shared to be further disclosed.
- I accept as a professional obligation the need to protect the confidentiality of personal information disclosed.
- I recognise that children and parents have a right to expect that confidentiality be maintained.
- I will exercise caution when discussing day to day experiences with colleagues or other childminders.
You will also find out confidential information about my family and myself during the course of our working relationship and I would be grateful if you too would respect my family’s confidentiality and not repeat what you may have been told to other parties. No one likes to be gossiped about.
